Hunting Small Game in New Zealand

Hunting Small Game in New Zealand

New Zealand's hunting claim to fame comes from stags and tahr but hunting small game in New Zealand can be pretty darned good.

Petersen Hunting's Kevin Steele samples some of the hunting for lesser-known species in this segment and has a ball.

He starts off by chasing rabbits and enjoys a classic bunny hunt without the aid of dogs. Then it's time to pursue wild turkeys.

New Zealand offers excellent hunting for the Merriam's sub-species of wild turkeys and this hunt is anything but typical. Using spot-and-stalk tactics, they hunt the turkeys with a .17 HMR rifle and have to pull several maneuvers to get into range.
